Results of the 2005 Virgil Mountain Madness A huge thanks to all who made this year's Virgil Mountain Madness a success! The number of runners increased for the third straight year and the downpour, which began 30 minutes after the start, while a challenge for the volunteers, certainly helped the race live up to its name! In the 30 km race Ryan Pouling came in first with a very fast time, but unfortunately missed a turn and mistakenly skipped the last woods section before the turn-around, which probably saved him 3-5 minutes. He returned from the turn-around on the correct route after being directed by Bob Bohdan and his son David who were serving the traditional Madness champagne at the turn-off into the woods. Ryan is heading to New Zealand soon to compete with the US Mountain Running Team and was using the Madness as a training run to get ready. We wish him and the team the best of luck! On the women's side, Katie Danner shattered Becky Harman's old course record by around 18 minutes and came in looking as though she had a lot more left. She credits Boris with leading her to victory! In the 12 km race another course record was set on the women's side by Suzanne Myette who eclipsed the old mark by around 9 minutes. Perhaps she was spurred on by the fact that she and her friend Byron Labare had left the top down on their jeep! Byron did not even slow down as he crossed the line in second place headed in the direction of his car. Adam Engst won the 12 km for the men for the second time in three years and has already provided a wonderful post race report. Thanks Adam! Thanks to Jim Miner for compiling these race results…
